“Lucy worked really hard to make sure that every element of our project proceeded smoothly at all times.
As expected with any new development, we had our share of challenges and delays. But Lucy was focused, committed and professional throughout it all. Lucy’s keen attention to detail and her positive attitude enabled the many different issues to be dealt with very efficiently. She remained unfazed and enthusiastic, which was immensely reassuring to me. Throughout the entire project, I was confident that Lucy looked after my interests at all times, and I relied on her unreservedly.”

WHAT IS INTERIOR DESIGN?
Interior Design is the art and science of enhancing your interior space. Lucinda Taylor Interior Design helps with all aspects of Interior design, from layout planning and colour schemes, to furniture, materials & lighting, to those final decorative touches.
To Lucinda interior design is creating a home that reflects her clients’ personality. She endeavours to get inside her client’s head to produce personal interiors that they love and which work for their way of living.
An interior designer should take these things and arrange them in such a way that makes sense and is aesthetically pleasing. Lucinda loves integrating items from her clients’ old houses that they want to bring with them. She encourages this as she thinks that it makes a house a home.
Comfort and functionality is key to excellent design, which when done right makes the flow of a house and the movement from space to space easy. Small details make excellent interior design; tables next to the sofas within easy reach and considered lighting makes all the difference. These details are often only noticed when they have been overlooked.
Interior design has multiple layers and often depends on what a client is looking for help with. Sometimes all a house needs is a light touch of layered furniture, lighting and accessories. However, others may require a full strip out, especially when a layout doesn’t work for the family. It is so important to Lucinda to have a good base to work from and if there is something fundamentally wrong with a layout it will never function properly, however much decoration is added.
“In your own home, I think that it is so important to surround yourself with possessions and things that mean something to you”
Interior Design to Create Calm from Chaos
With the rise of social media and the likes of Instagram and Pinterest, imagery is incredibly accessible and Lucinda often finds that this can be overwhelming for her clients. It has become part of the job of an interior designer to strip this back and create an easy to navigate path from concept to completion of a project.
This goes hand in hand with creating a strong relationship with clients. The relationship between interior designers and clients has to be built on trust - without trust the interior design process becomes impossible to navigate and any original ideas can quickly get cast to one side.
Interior Design for Excellence
What makes excellent interior design? For Lucinda excellence happens when a beautiful design is tailored perfectly to fit the needs of the client; when attention to detail from the finish of a fireplace to the handles on the cabinets has been considered; and when a well-executed and well-run project that is based on clear communication with the client comes to completion on time.
A house designed for a large young family with animals in the countryside will be very different to that of a retired couple living in a lateral apartment in London. Lucinda strives to produce original and creative designs to suit each individual client. This is part of what makes her portfolio so diverse. She finds this to be a much more satisfying way to design, rather than taking a one size fits all approach.
Attention to detail is key to the success of an interior designer, whether it is a trim on a sofa or some panelling detailing around a doorway. All these details need to be considered and a decision reached on the best solution - this ensures the best outcome with no surprises at the end of a project.
How the admin associated with a project is managed affects how smoothly a project runs. There will always be unforeseen problems onsite so good communication with the contractors, project managers and architect are essential as well as regular site visits. Lucinda believe that good management is essential for a successful interior design project, and likes to take care of this side of things for her clients to ensure that the process for them is enjoyable and stress free.
Lastly, Lucinda takes on the approach that she is here to collaborate with her clients, not dictate to them what they should and shouldn’t have. That’s being said she is quick to step in and voice her opinion if she feels strongly that something will not work for the client, and will come up with some alternative solutions.
“Excellence is different for each individual client, and needs to account for their lifestyle and requirements”
Interior Design to overcome Inherent Challenges
Every project always has its own challenges that need to be considered. One of the main reason that clients hire Lucinda is to create original interiors that reflect the personalities of her clients.
It’s common for houses to have awkwardly shaped rooms, where furniture positioning is not always obvious. In addition, some old houses can be listed which limits what you can do to them and often requires a heritage consultant. Lucinda enjoys these challenges and finds that this can actually lead to more creativity as these spaces need to be cleverly designed and considered.
One of the most common challenges of interior design is budgeting and timescales. For all projects, it’s extremely important to understand from the offset. Staying within a clients’ budget and meeting their design goals is essential to maintain a good relationship. Unexpected delays can happen from time to time, especially with older buildings, so keeping clients up to date and managing their expectations is an essential aspect of interior design that Lucinda excels at.
